Orientation

Meet your tutor: tell it who you are as a player, what gear you have, and what music you're after, then set up a practice routine that will carry you through every course that follows.

Orientation

Welcome aboard. Your tutor has crossed a considerable distance to study Earth music, and it has concluded that the guitar is one of your planet’s better ideas. Before it teaches you anything, it wants to know who it’s teaching.

This short course does two things. First, a quick interview: how long you’ve played, what gear you have, what music you want to make, and how much time you can give it. Your answers shape every later lesson — the examples your tutor reaches for, how fast it moves, and what it assumes you already know.

Second, you’ll set up a practice station: a fixed time, a fixed spot, and a few cheap tools. This is the single highest-leverage thing a new player can do, and every other course here assumes you’ve done it.

Neither exercise requires a guitar in hand. Both take a few minutes.
